This is one of those "what the fuck?" moments.

ah, remember what that's about. The owners of the Lava Lamp trademark are contesting that it's a generic term (like asprin or what have you) and are trying to forbid Wikipedia from using it without paying them

Lava®, Lava Lite® and Lava Brand and Design® are trademarks for a brand of motion lamps as shown in U.S. Trademark Registration Nos. 2,121,684, 852,625 and 2,972,900, owned by Haggerty Enterprises, Inc. Although motion lamps are sometimes described as “lava lamps,” such descriptions are inaccurate. The trademark Lava® only accurately refers to motion lamps manufactured by Haggerty Enterprises, Inc.

That seemingly helpful bit of info was removed by User:Yath, whose expertise in the Lava lamp field is considered second only to his mastery of the subject of Bandersnatches.

But if it isn't a Lava Lamp, then what is it? "Hot Blob Going Up and Down Lamp"?

What a poo.

So Lava Lamp isn't trademarked.

No such capitulation with 'Kleenex'

This article is about the Kleenex brand...

For information about the generic item, see Facial tissue.

The Kleenex brand name is present throughout the world. Consequently, Kimberly-Clark diligently protects its intellectual property rights by ensuring it and others use the mark correctly, such as Kleenex facial tissue, Kleenex bathroom tissue, Kleenex paper towels, and Kleenex diapers.

But then again Kimberly Clark has nowhere near the amount of clout as Haggerty Enterprises, Inc. ;-)

It is a problem for a company when its trademarked name is used generically - Biro, Hoover and Thermos come to mind.

Ziploc comes to mind as well.

Nobody really bullshits around and calls them "resealable sandwich bags".

I am shocked, shocked that ∑1, ne1 would actually take credit for creating the Lava®Lamp.
