Yes, well, those of us who are banned generally don't have much choice in the matter. I would edit, if they would actually see fit to look at undoing my ban.

No, not right now, but will do everytime I should moraly do so.

Fixing the odd typo anonymously, only, or flagrantly broken == structures, or the rare busted URL.

No and I never will again. It became apparent that the place was deeply corrupt, degrading to the soul, damaging to society, and the man in St Petersburg taking the credit for my vast efforts was a total prick. Received no blocks, no warnings, and mostly praise during my longish spell as an editor. So those on WP who claim that WR is made up of banned or disruptive users are talking turkey.

blink.gif Err not quite. Set up a new account, edit in a way that will make you popular with teenagers, revert lots of vandalism by scouring RC and you could be an admin within 3 months ph34r.gif

Well, officially now I was banned for posting to Wikipedia Review. I have recently been called a troll AND a vandal. And in all of this recursive logic, apparently that means that I was banned for being a troll and a vandal. Also of course, you know that I am the only person on Wikipedia Review. The rest of you are all my sock puppets! That includes all of you guests who are reading! That's right, I am just sitting here talking to myself all day, arguing with myself, and setting up all of these complicated arguments!

That's right, I confess! I have multiple personalities, type at in excess of 3,000 words per minute, have the most advanced IP spoofing software available, with the fastest computer in the history of the world, that outdoes the entire NASA computer section by itself. And as for all of those identities that I've created, well, those are all real people, and I am just pretending to be them, and hiding all of their complaints.

The one and only exception is you, who are reading this! Ha ha sucker! That's right, this was all done to upset you!

(No, not really, lol, but it is funny to say it)

It looks like Internodeuser isn't blocked right now - is that not your account? If it is, you can still edit, and (presumably) request that Blissyu2 be unblocked in exchange for letting Internodeuser be blocked as the sock.

I know, easy enough to do. I just have this thing whereby I refuse to ever break the rules, no matter how stupid they are.

Do they realise how easy it would have been for me to have created 10,000 different accounts, when I had a dynamic IP from the most popular ISP in Australia, with 1,000s of different wikipedia users, including admins, that they refused to ban? I mean seriously, I was unbannable in any realistic sense. But I never made extra accounts. Not once did I get a little thank you for that. Nothing. Instead, they make up fake sock puppet accusations as their little way to say thank you for obeying our rules.

Its little wonder that people go around and do what they like. Wikipedia practically forces you to.

The problem is that I forgot my password.

Anyway Yamla is on the loose now, so he'd ban me in seconds.

My editing of WP seems to be withering away. Still I am a proper WP citizen in good standing which I enjoy pointing out because it defies many WP stereotypes.

I did hear that Microsofty are paying experts (arent we experts?) to help them up their profile on wikipedia http://www.computerworld.com/blogs/node/4436. All you need is a few dozen computers spread over the world (none with IPs traceable back to Microsoft) and a good control your friends pc type software (cheaply and even freely available) and Bob's your uncle.

I have to say, it was much easier to quit than I anticipated. I haven't edited in close to two months, and haven't done any legitimate editing in more than 10 weeks.

I miss the research part of it more than anything, but now I'm working on stuff I wouldn't be allowed to put into Wikipedia anyway, so it's a major benefit.
Rochelle
It's quite depressing to read this, actually. I still edit Wikipedia around four to five hours a day, I'm not afraid to admit that. In fact, I'm a sysop on a WMF project, not english wikipedia.

Yeah, researching something you have a passion for, creating great articles from nothing are the nice bits. Getting some kind of acknowledgement from other editors that it's a great piece and so on. That and learning how to do things on a computer. Which is still comparatively new to me.

Then some god damn fool comes along, and you end up protecting the integrity of the thing against some know-nothing who's read something about something on the internet. And the joy goes out of it. Der Jimbo's face cackling on a TV in the background at your expense as you grapple with petty mugwumps.

Some kind of a minor sex offender I think. From memory, his crime was that he felt up a nurse, or pinched her butt or something. Enough to officially be regarded as a sex offender, and have his name and photograph on a web site though.

The real reason why he was so famous was because he was so god-damned ugly! I mean a large part of it was some kind of a rare birth disease, but seriously his face was scary ugly.

He became notable (and indeed, is very notable) because his picture was passed all over the internet, and everyone said "Oh my god he is so ugly!" That's it basically.

Very much notable, and worthy of having a Wikipedia article, but it was just such an invasion of privacy.

I edit by proxy (no not those kinds of proxies).
When I'm looking for something and I see a typo or something out of whack, I let someone else (who has an established username) know so they can correct it.

Indeed. I fear the researching skills I developed are going to atrophy as my focus deteriorates, but hey.

Besides, no one seemed to give a shit about my editing anyway, from the looks of things.

As for Peppers, I think blissy nailed it down, but, needless to say, internet memes aren't where I'm throwing my efforts these days - although it's really pleasant to be doing something where Myspace and random trusted websites can be reliable sources.

Great responses. As for myself, I was a moderate contributor for about a year. I've definitely scaled back a lot, and hardly contributed at all for the last two months. Now and then I can't resist a small edit though. I will never again do research or contribute anything substantial to the place.

I think when I lost it was when I learned how the founder and business associates are making money off of free contributions, and when I realized Jimbo was a former pornographer. Simultaneously I was getting the beatdown from SlimVirgin and friends on a number of controversial articles, and fighting a protracted edit war with some ridiculous high school and college kids about an unrelated topic. I realized, hey Wikipedia is fine with taking free work from me as long as I stay away from anything controversial, but the minute I want to help make any sort of significant editorial decision it basically says get lost. I'm kind of ashamed of myself for putting so much time and effort into the project and not realizing what a dupe I was sooner.

I was never blocked or banned, but I was repeatedly warned to stay civil for for ridiculous things like calling someone "whiny", so I guess some would say I was a bit disruptive. I also received some praise too, and some of it came from guys claiming to be professional historians. I value that more than the repeated NPA's and WP:CIV templates I got from the kids.

Still, like some of you said, I too like researching and writing encyclopedia articles. I guess that's why I started my own encyclopedia. At least I know who's pulling the puppet strings.

I stopped editing several months ago, and find I don't miss it at all. But then, I never descended to crack/meth level of wiki-addiction. Would never consider going back, except for pay, perhaps.
GlassBeadGame
I'm surprised how many other "moderate" editors there are on WR. I though I was atypical around here. I still imagine I will do some editing on local cultural/arts/politics/history matters. I find that these topics result in minimum interaction with admins or POV pushing editors. I'm currently just doing sort of maintenance. Probably at a rate of less than a 50 edits a month. I never edited more than 300 edits per month. I will certainly use a lot of caution in creating any more BLPs. Then again like I said before my editing might just wither away.
jdrand
I am active and editing frequently (although I am not screwing off all day, like Jayjg, and then pretend I have a real job) on simple english wikipedia, while I am blocked on english. I enjoy it.

I gave him a few suggestions in regards to Crackpot's RFA, and advised him to 'play nice' as he was headed for a ban. He mistakingly thought that he could be as uncivil as the 'protected' members of the 'ruling elite' and their minions and quislings -- who are likewise guarded from harm like a mother Grizzly protecting her cubs.

When you're attempting to write a book, the only reliable sources that matter are your own. d:-)
