Full Version: Encyclopedia Dramatica article recreated

The ED article has been recreated with, as of now, 15 references! But, alas, no external link to the website the article is about. ohmy.gif

Do you think an alarm is going off at JzG's house right now so that he can show up in his cape and bicycle shorts to delete it? I bet he's pedaling as fast as he can right now to get to a computer so he can speedy delete it.

But seriously: How long will it last?

Article already deleted. While I must say that the rewrite of the article was quite good, I go along with the decision. An article on the subject will never have a chance in hell of be neutral and the rewrite 'solved' the problem by eliminating everything related to Wikipedia, but that's only ignoring the problem.

That's true of a lot of articles, such as ones about people prominent in Wikipedia.

It still exists in the history. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...oldid=196237031.

Indeed. If you ask me, encyclopedic articles about Wikipedia shouldn't be made at all, as I believe that like Mr. Bush (or Mr. Obama, just to cover both sides of the political range) can't write a neutral autobiography, so can't we write a decent one for ourselves.

KamrynMatika, not working for me.

I didn't get to see the new version (I guess I'm not quick enough) but I'm glad it got deleted.

You need sysop permissions to see the history. But that does mean that it hasn't been oversighted, which I think has happened at some points in the past.

Truth be told, Wikipedia Review would be far more deserving of an article - it's actually got a claim to notability.

That being said, there's nothing to hide....

Ehh? ED's Alexa ranking is usually in the top 5,000 or so - at the moment it's something like 2,700. Ours isn't even in the top 100,000, most months... I mean, a lot of that is probably them running the Alexa toolbar on every machine they can get their hands on, but ED still has much higher traffic than this site will probably ever have. (Unless we can finally work out that deal with Microsoft...)

Of course, I personally wouldn't want to see Wikipedia put up an article about ED either, until they do something about (as in "delete") a small handful of articles that I personally find gratuitously mean-spirited and distasteful. The difference here is that I'm freely admitting it's because of that, as opposed to trying to make a rather dubious case for lack of "notability" - when in fact there are plenty of distasteful sites, including several porn sites, that have WP articles about them.

No offense to anyone specifically, of course!

Also, should I mention that Wikipedia's Adult Website Category just happens to have exactly 69 entries listed at the moment?

Why are you making fun of JzG for bicycling, of all things?

I exercise too, for your information.

I didn't "eliminate" the stuff relating to Wikipedia, I just started from scratch with LexisNexis results.

I feel like the responses on DRV are giving me initiative to speedy delete the 4chan article.

Speedy delete 4chan's article? On what grounds, pray tell?

Speedy delete 4chan's article? On what grounds, pray tell?

That was the argument at DRV. Sources for 4chan is worse than the sourcing for ED, or so he claims, provoking a score of references to OTHERSTUFFEXISTS.
