This is a new MediaWiki feature (which, amongst other things, replaces oversight) that is only partially implemented. My source grumbled something to me about someone committing code to the head that wasn't fully ready yet, and probably shouldn't have been activated on enwiki, but there you have it.

The vandal was TougHHead or JtV or one of those - I don't care. But I was surprised to see these being done by the local sysop. It's an interesting half-way world between deletion and oversight; we can see it happened, but we just can't see *what* happened which kinda takes a lot of the point out of vandalism and other attention-seeking stuff. Prolly more GFDL-friendly than oversight, too, as the attributions get to stay.

Thoughts?

If anyone wants to try out this new system for themselves, to find out how it works or whatever, or to try oversight or admin tools, ask the nice folks on this test wiki for an account. Or pmail me - I'm a steward on there ohmy.gif

Please don't use "prolly" when you are meaning to or hoping to be taken seriously. srsly. ;p You do have children right? This new shorthand is not a good thing for educating the young. This needs to stop someplace/where, and that can be most probably with me and you. Seriously. smile.gif

O RLY? Like, srsly?? Whatev ... kktksbai!

When I'm in full flow of consciousness mode (read "rambling"), I tend to just type as fast as I think and adding shorthand to the mix just makes my typing keep up. Yes, I've kids & I'm also a trained adult literacy tutor but I don't indulge in such shorthand when it's not appropriate.

Slightly less outrageous than oversight but still very dubious. The whole point of history is that anyone can see previous versions, compare and judge from them. This way no one can judge. Probably it was just vandalism but what if the censored edits were valid and this was used only in some power fight?

They're oversighted edits. They're revison-deleted. Oversight was/is just a "hack". It's very buggy still though.

When was revision deletion activated on en.wiki, why wasn't it announced, and where's the button for it?

Checking into this a little more, the extension is called Bitfields for rev deleted and Special:Version does not show it as an installed on enwiki.

This says
QUOTE
[Oversight] is a temporary hack until the new revision deletion system is ready to replace the old archive deletion. The revisions are shoved into a parallel table similar to the archive table, but not accessible through any of the normal channels in the wiki. Items can be manually restored from the database if required.

Coincidentally FT2 inquired about revision deletion on the talk page recently.
QUOTE
Multiple item selection

Can it be clarified if this is possible or not? Often it'smultiple revisions tobe deleted. If the page says this, I may have missed it... FT2 23:19, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
