The reference is in the wrong place

<ref>''History of Western Philosophy'', chapter 19</ref>. The result is a synthesis of the naturalism of empirical science, and the mysticism of Plato, that informed the Western intellectual tradition for almost a thousand years<ref>Lawson-Tancred, introduction</ref>.

Hi Tiptoey you are doing a good job. However I was just trying to correct a problem in the article on Aristotle's Metaphysics. I am discussing this on the Wikipedia Review here;

http://wikipediareview.com/index.php?s=&sh...ndpost&p=129305

Here is the article: Metaphysics (Aristotle). 86.132.248.199 (talk) 21:54, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

The reference to Bertrand Russell should clearly be in a footnote, not in the main article. This was agreed the last time this article was discussed. Best 86.132.248.199 (talk) 21:55, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Difficult that one.

[edit] Here is my splendid new page. I was inspired to create it because my daughter is reading 'On Mice and Men' for here GSCE. I read 'Grapes of Wrath' for my GCSE, called something different then, and it seems like IP addresses are rather like the tents that the migrant workers lived in then.

Now they have Alt-a mortgages but that's another matter. Some of them work on Wikipedia.

[edit] Oh wow they just burned the tent down.

[edit] Tiptoey is interesting guy with slightly subsersive page.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Tiptoety

But all this too subversive.

But he has not deleted all the history on Seth Finkelstein's page

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...oldid=238020850

As you can clearly see

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...&action=history

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...&action=history

Hey he even takes out the pederasty reference on Jimbo's page

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...&action=history

And this guy Tiptoey was responsible for semi-protecting 'George Orwell'. Irony on stilts.

Block evasion: Banned user, Peter Damian
This block has been set to expire: 22:09, 12 October 2008.
Even if blocked, you will usually still be able to edit your user talk page and contact other editors and administrators by email.

But what's this about 'usually' being able to edit your user talk page? I don't see that? Even the migrant workers are allowed a tent. I thought you Wikipedia liberal guys who vote for Obama allow the guys a tent.

Hey guys. I'm talking. What's the problem with talking? [[Special:Contributions/86.132.248.199|86.132.248.199]] ([[User talk:86.132.248.199#top|talk]]) 22:13, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Oh they completely blanked the page.

QUOTE

Freedom of speech is the freedom to speak freely without censorship or limitation. The synonymous term freedom of expression is sometimes used to denote not only freedom of verbal speech but any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used. Freedom of speech and freedom of expression is closely related to, yet distinct from, the concept of freedom of conscience and freedom of thought. In practice, the right to freedom of speech is not absolute in any country and the right is commonly subject to "limitations", such as on "hate speech". This is because exercising freedom of speech always takes place within a context of competing values.

Why do you even bother?

Because I believe in the free speech thing. I grew up in England, was educated there, and I work there. We would not allow this.

I have studied human history over most periods. Even in the worst, the darkest days, there was some form of free speech allowed. Often if you persisted they would burn you. But you were allowed the freedom to say what you wanted.

[edit] Also, people need to be shown that there isn't even elementary freedom of speech. Most talk pages are not blanked in the way that one was. You can talk with the jailers. This one just vanished.
Elara
You can't win this because the entire place is a pile of idiots and jackals. It's like trying to convince people to stop mutilating women in Africa, or deal with racial hatreds. It's part of the product.

They're fools, and bashing your skull against them will only get you frustrated.

You're kidding, right?? huh.gif

Were you there for the Thatcher era? The CJB? The mayhem that surrounded the Poll Tax? Battle of the Beanfield, etc, etc

All through the 70s-90s, civil rights and freedom of speech were eroded until Britain ended up the way it is today; largely a police state. I remember being held for 36 hours in Heathrow for being found guilty of being in possession of an offensive accent. The proliferation of CCTV cameras on every freakin' corner now ...

I'm pretty sure the appropriate Steinbeck/WP analogy is In Dubious Battle.

Well there's a distinct line between simply talking on a talk page (which is what I'm complaining about here) and rioting.

Ther prevention of terrrorism thing is because we do have a lot of terrorism. Why were you held at Heathrow? Doesn't sound right.

Yes quite. And on Alison citing this:

At least the guys are allowed to legally demonstrate. It was Blair who ended the right to demonstrate outside Downing street.

With all the plagiarism and moralistic moaning? Could be. But lots of other possibilities:

The Wayward Bus-- usual cast of characters lunches toward the picaresque cliff. Most of them are the same character in different guises.

Chicannery Roe: a biologist with psych interests befriends of a bunch of bums and low lifes, all trying to escape having to work at the local sardine factory. Music heard late into the night from Doc's record player.

Of Mice and Men: After immensely powerful EveryKing pets many subjects to death, he runs afoul of OrangeCurly, and Durova finally just has to take him out and shoot him.

The Apes of Wrath: Refugees from the dustbowl of Wikipedia find that in California they don't pay them to write, either. Lots of arguing about socialism.

America has been routinely adopting Britain's worst features for years now, up to and including Simon Cowell.
