Full Version: The Invasion (professional wrestling)

Looch
I was reading up on this today and boy was I surprised at the amount of horrible writing as well as non-neutral point of view, opinionated original research in the "Reception" section. Fan blogs and columns (such as something called "Smash Wrestling," among others; the Smash Wrestling main page boasts its calling card as "wrestling news and rumors"...how reassuring) are used as sources. In fact, the only reliable source used in that section appears to be the Canadian Explorer Online web site/SLAM! Wrestling. There is also non-spectacular language ("brawling it out"). There is a horrible lack of consistency throughout the article, with the word "invasion" sometimes being spelled "Invasion" and other times being spelled "InVasion" (with a capital "v"). Sometimes "steel cage match" is capitalized. Other times, it is not capitalized. Sometimes, "raw" is spelled "RAW"; other times it is spelled "Raw." Sometimes, the word "match" is capitalized and othertimies it is not capitalized. There are so many other examples. Slang words like "cleanly" are used. There is inconsistent capitalization in the headlines ("Jericho and The Rock Feud"; the word "Feud" should probably not be capitalized). While all of these points apply to the "Reception" section of the article, many of them also apply to the "History" and "Aftermath" sections of the article. This is one of hundreds of professional wrestling articles on Wikipedia which have been constructed in staggeringly horrid ways.

Also, "Among other factors, however, mismanagement within WCW (such as allowing wrestlers themselves to book matches) eventually led WCW to a downward spiral from which it never recovered. The Monday Night Wars came to an end on March 23, 2001, when the WWF bought WCW for what was considered to be a bargain price." is original research.

The pro wrestling articles on Wikipedia are usually pretty ridiculous. It's best just to steer clear of them all together. Don't even think about editing them, if your edits don't agree with User:TJ Spyke and co., you'll be reverted and told why you are an idiot.

And my God, do those people hate Dave Meltzer.
