According to the Dub-P, Stevenson University was founded in Stevenson, Maryland as Villa Julie College in 1947 by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur as a one-year school training women to become medical secretaries. The College was named for Saint Julie Billiart, foundress of the Sisters of Notre Dame.

Sounds like Jimbo will fit in nicely, what with all the Catholic schoolgirls running around.

“Wikipedia is fundamentally a charitable endeavor to create and distribute a quality free encyclopedia to every single person on the planet. And within our community there’s a very strong spirit that we should be concerned about quality, that we’re trying to conserve a culture that has a positive, helpful role for people and learning. It’s a fairly defined project as far as public interest,” he said in a May 2009 online interview with the Paley Center for Media.

He is insane ... of course, he gets paid exceeding well paid to be insane so I suppose there is no incentive to stick to reality and, like any other cult leader, he has to recruit more young people to sustain his position power and income.

Or is he taking about some other Wikipedia? It is not the one I know.

Targeting students is common amongst cults ... young people, away from home for the first time, no longer under their parents' influence and judgement, lots of time of their hands. Cults are an escape from social pressures vulnerable individuals cannot deal with.

Letters to the Dean time? It might spice up the conversation.

Make the debate more interesting.

I am not anti-Wikipedia. I just think that it has some problems and is impacting upon the rest of society negatively. Especially all that hardcore amateur pornography.

Stevenson hasn't been run by the Sisters for quite a long time. Their current board is more Jewish than Catholic.

I live right down the road from there, mind you. My cousin also attends the school along with other stuff. It has a nice campus, but Greenspring Valley is an interesting place - million dollar homes and horrible cross traffic.

By the way, if Jimbo wants to stop by, he is more than welcome. : )

I hope that this soon-to-be graduate asks Jimbo about his thoughts on the nursing profession.

Oops, maybe not:
QUOTE
“To him, altruism was evil,” remembers [his first wife] Pam, who says that Wales therefore discouraged her from pursuing a nursing degree when they were married. “His whole ‘Mr. Save the World’ is so contrary to what he said every day for seven years.”

His insanity is not the point---insane people are commonplace.
The point is, what magical fairy dust does he possess that causes thousands of even-more-insane people to dedicate their lives to his half-though-out project?

The Cult of Celebrity ... which is the cult he is working now.

He is tapping into all sort of ego inflating psychological archetypes. In terms of cults, it not even that bad a one. In fact, it is a lot more structured and cohesive than most that went much further.

What needs to be done is to separate him from the 5 figure speaker fees ... the fees should go back into the community that is paying for them with their time, energy and, ultimately, money.

Time is money.

Virginia's for Lovers™, so if it's full of virgins that won't last long. Srsly, you do know how the state got its name, no?

Following Groucho, what color is the whitehouse? Who's buried in Grant's tomb? What animal are the canary islands named after? Where was India ink invented? And what about French fries?

The Canary Islands - as they are known to people who think in capital initials for proper nouns - is a famous trick question; the answer is "dogs" (canines).

Oh, and where was India Pale Ale invented?

No, that was my second attempt, figuring I would link to the quote that I previously left uncited.

They have purged their Wall of that message, too. Looks like the Wikimedia Foundation style of "deny, deny, deny" is fully in place at Stevenson. Should be a great commencement speech. I wonder how many times Jimbo will say the brand name "Wikia"?
thekohser
So, who attended the big commencement and heard the speech?

No mention of it anywhere in the news, and Stevenson University's Facebook page went from congratulating graduates to taunting about its men's lacrosse team:

QUOTE
NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament Semifinal game against Salisbury is Sunday at 1pm - hope to see you there. Stevenson ended there 15 year CAC Championship run last month. Come support the team as they end Salisbury's Championship bid for the second year in a row.

It looks like the first coverage of Jimbo's big speech (and honorary doctorate degree!) at Stevenson University comes in the form of a blog written by a now-graduated alumnus. Not only do we have another True Believer on our hands, but also an excellent photographer -- seriously, that picture of Jimbo at the podium is Wikimedia Commons-ready, is it not?!

I left a comment this morning, but it appears to have been rejected, so I'll leave it here:

QUOTE
I see that Wales also taught you how to execute the “Big Lie”, taking credit for doing something that someone else actually did.

Do you know who actually brought the idea of the wiki software and architecture to the Nupedia (check your spelling, Graduate) encyclopedia? Dr. Larry Sanger.

Do you know who actually named the new feeder project “Wikipedia”? Dr. Larry Sanger.

Do you know who issued the first invitation for people to come help build Wikipedia? Dr. Larry Sanger.

Do you know who spent most of the time in Wikipedia’s first year, ironing out the kinks and laying down the key guidelines and policies that still govern Wikipedia today? Dr. Larry Sanger.

Do you know about the only person in the world who thinks that “Honorary Dr.” Jimmy Wales was “the founder” of Wikipedia? Apparently, it’s you, and (of course) the liar Jimmy Wales.

Here’s a “dumb idea” for you — don’t tolerate people who take full credit for the hard work of others.

Well, we're running out of people who remember Grant as a living figure. dry.gif Gotta expect that. Hyde Park visitation is down, too, except for LaRouche, The Last New Dealer.

I think Mrs. Grant is in the tomb, too.

Can't we call entombed people "buried"? I suppose. Interred but not inhumed. Mausolified. But if you can have burial at sea (in water), why not burial in rock or air? huh.gif

Yup, the two of them are side by side.

I was there once, on a Valentine's Day. I remember it clearly -- I wrote "Happy Valentine's Day, Gen. Grant" in the site's visitor's book. I also signed my name as Kim Jong-Il from Pyongyang, DPRKorea, but that's another story. smile.gif

We’re not kidding about the absurdity, we’ve actually worked through the night to deliver business cards in the early morning hours so that a client could hand them out at a tradeshow later that day. PHEW that was a fun night.

Wow, they pulled an all-nighter. I've never heard of any business ever doing that. It's ABSURD!
