I JUST GOT INDEFFED AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!
what is with these admins?
I am mystified and disappointed.
* Totally unfair, in that the general rule is that users aren't blocked for responding uncivilly to being blocked.
* Gains practically no sympathy from me, because what do you expect when you poke bears?
I reserve my sympathy for those who have been abused when they rationally expected reasonable treatment.
I'd prefer, of course, that Obesity be unblocked, but I'd prefer that hosts of blocked editors be unblocked, that blocks be used preventatively, based on proven risk, with what is generally recommended, gradual escalation, and only when actually needed. Incivility on the user's own talk page is generally tolerable, particularly when it is general -- or directed at an admin who has blocked the user.
But, of course, politically it's a Bad Idea, and shows that the user cares more about spewing out whatever the user thinks rather than considering what the community needs to settle the disruption. But as the Encyclopedia that Anyone Can Edit, some allowance must be made for emotional immaturity. Even if the user is sixty years old, not to mention if younger.
I just would not deal with this with an indef block, and, in fact, the user should have been simply left for the block to expire. Ranting and raving about being blocked, on the users own Talk page, quite simply, is just, for some, to be expected and should be discounted. It does little harm because nobody is obligated to read it. If he comes off the 48 hour block and goes to, say, AN/I, and rants about the "douche" who blocked him, well, maybe a week block.... etc.
