Panyd said later at the SPA “I shouldn't have left my account logged in while he was using it.” Again, how do you get a laptop to a bar, still logged in to Wikipedia?

The login has to do with a cookie in the browser, not the IP.

They are two different people. Like most couples who are identified to the Foundation, they are assumed as "one voice" when consensus is concerned. Who knows about voting, but Wiki is not a Democracy remember? smile.gif

Well I blanked it because it appears she does exist http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...oldid=378053517 as Ironholds and others have met her.

I don't want to make fun of anyone who genuinely has mental illness (although the idea of exploiting non-existent illness to game the system makes me cross).

But what do we really know? Some woman turned up with Symonds to the London meetup. Did she identify as the person who edits Wikipedia? Did anyone does editing and so on?

The whole story is absolutely implausible. But then part of it is real.

I think many stories on Wikipedia are implausible, but then part of them is real. They have drugged editors, stalkers, obsessed people, child lovers, transsexuals, identity thieves, con men, and more. tongue.gif

Well it would have been at this meetup.

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meetup/London/36

Where the dashing officer mentions he is bringing her.

[edit] The likeliest explanation, given the similarity of both editing styles (and the implausible opening of her account with an edit to her monobook) is that he has hijacked her name, possibly with her permission, to use it to get two administrator accounts. I mean, Mrs Damian wouldn't give a f--k if I did that (so long as her real name did not come into it).

I don't know.

A little known fact: Ironholds was a would-be child actor who auditioned for the role of Harry Potter in the popular film series. If he got the role, we wouldn't be having this conversation. And, chances are, the Harry Potter films would have been dreadful.

Ironholds has also turned up in WR under a couple of different names, too. Can you guess which ones? (It is kind of easy, truth be told.)

I blanked my original post after it became clear that there is a real person corresponding to user:panyd, who is not Mr Symonds. But the question of whether Symonds is using that account with or without her permission is different. In addition to the evidence cited by others here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Req...adminship/Panyd , here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_tal...nyd#Question_15
and here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Soc...Cavalry/Archive - some of which is inexplicable on the assumption that Chaseme was not using her account for the RfA, there is other evidence that he is the main user of this account. As follows.

1. Similarity of time zone. Ms Panyd is supposed to be mainly resident in the US, where she attends college. But the editing patterns of both accounts are almost identical. Rocket-powered editing for the English day, followed by sleep from about 4 until 10. (Getting up at 10 is what my father used to call a 'gentleman's hour', but then Chase me is an officer and a gentleman, so we'll grant him that).

2. Similarity of edit comments. 'Whoops', 'dear god'. The spelling of 'encyclopaedia' using the extra 'e. Other similarities noted in the Rfa above.

3. Similarity of style. Both technical - both use bots, and Panyd's first edit was to install twinkle - at almost exactly the same time chaseme was experimenting with this.

She explicitly says in the RfA that she attends Sarah Lawrence college.

Another oddity is that, while she has only communicated with CML on his talk page 3 times, they make many consecutive edits. Listed below. There are at least 3m pages on Wikipedia. What explains the uncanny way in which one edit is followed by another within minutes? Do they phone each other up? Well they claim to, but it strikes me as bizarre. Some of the sequences are truly difficult to explain. And the one about 'churchfitters' - an obscure folk band, is impossible. CML claims that they both liked the band, and that is why that was her first edit. But CML originally PRODed it. Then followed up by added some material to it. I don't know how you explain that. If they both 'really like' the band, why didn't they create the article before? Why PROD it when it is created? Bizarre.

Is there any reason why she couldn't have been living in the US attending Sarah Lawrence for part of the year and also living in the UK for part of the year? And now, for the sake of argument, lives full-time in the UK, with Chase Me?

Assume that Chase Me and Panyd edit in tandem, rather than being one person. This explains the patterns that you have noticed. Not very exciting, I know, but not everything is a conspiracy.

I don't know what you mean by 'in tandem'. Literally it is 'one behind the other', 'in sequence'. This does not explain the uncanny way in which an edit to one of the 3.5m articles in Wikipedia is immediately followed by another, by the other person. Statistically that is highly unlikely. It could be explained if one phoned the other up, of course. But phoning each other up about editing Wikipedia? And how do you edit within minutes while holding a phone? And what would be the point of it?

There is also the matter of the RfA. CML accidentally logged in as Panyd, in order to support her.

Assume that they are often in communication while they are both editing, either by being in the same place at the same time or through other means. I can imagine two people editing WP while simultaneously chatting via Skype or something similar. It paints a rather sad picture, but it is a possibility.

A little known fact: Ironholds was a would-be child actor who auditioned for the role of Harry Potter in the popular film series. If he got the role, we wouldn't be having this conversation. And, chances are, the Harry Potter films would have been dreadful.

Off-topic, but the films are dreadful. Daniel Ratcliffe is a terrible actor, and I only watch them because of Emma Watson. rolleyes.gif

Well, the story only really requires Ratcliffe to manage a look of earnest grimness. I don't know if he's capable of a really convincing [B] look of surprise and awe-- but that's what Grint/Weasley (a better actor than either of the other kids) is for.

Funny to who?

It seems evident that Chase Me exaggerated his involvement in the British military, but that's not a hanging offence. At least it's no longer a hanging offence. Should he be an arbitrator? Probably not, but that hardly makes him unique.

No, but finding out that he's a naval dogsbody on a stone frigate in Birmingham, U.K., is really funny. biggrin.gif In a way, it's funnier than if he wasn't in the military at all. He's just so incredibly junior and unimportant. It's like he occupies that part of the military totem pole that is below the ground. wink.gif

No, I think I'd much rather a world of cynics, as fools make very poor professonals.

Personally, I don't think I've ever known a very-competent person over the age of 40 who wasn't also pretty cynical about the world. They might exist, it's just that I haven't met any.

Warren Buffett: "If you're in a poker game for 15 minutes and you haven't yet identified the mark, then you're the mark." I admit I haven't ever met Mr. Buffett, but something tells me that he's no danger of being the exception to my rule, either.

Of course, there's the saying "An optimist is a pessimist who hasn't run into the real world yet"

And also the quote (I think by einstein).. "We try to make the world a more fool-proof place. The universe tries to make bigger fools. So far, the universe is winning")
