I'll bet Lar doesn't know that most of us say "Lar" like Burt Lahr or Lara. Where as, it occurs to me that if his name is Larry, maybe he himself says Lar as "Lair."

Lair is easier to say with a straight face than Lahr. I dunno why, but it is.

I've answered to it both ways (there was another Lar in HS and he got there first) but the long A version is my preferred pronunciation these days.
