Map

This map is amusing. Canada, the United States, the Philippines, Switzerland, and Vietnam all seem very confused.

Romance language in Somalia and Ethiopia? Maybe among some people aged circa 80 and 90, respectively, who would speak it as a second language. They also might as well add Louisiana on the map, since some people like to speak French there. It'd make as much sense. Don't forget some dabs of Italian in New York City and parts of Long Island and New Jersey.

Another thing I noticed is that the map was last updated in 2007. Considering that it's right there at the start of the article you'd think someone would have made it less odd in the past five years.

There was an attempt to bring it up to date a couple of months ago in either the illustration workshop or the map workshop, I forget which. But I think the request went unanswered.

They need to understand that it's impossible to describe minority languages on a map, and that images are not as easy or intuitive to screw with as it's done with highly dynamic pages.
