A lot of these news stories are sloppily reporting that Wikia itself is dead, not just its attempt at a search engine; this must be distressing to those involved with that site/company. It's similar to how, a few months ago, the demise of one of the amusement parks at Coney Island (Brooklyn, NY) was reported as if it was all of Coney Island that was defunct, when in fact there are a number of other amusements and famous landmarks still operating there including the Cyclone roller coaster and Nathan's hot-dog restaurant, which have always been completely independent of the defunct Astroland park.

Though probably not as distressing as actually watching, from the inside, Wikia go all pale and sickly.

Apart from any angelic benefactors, Wikia will depend on ad revenue, and that follows page views. Looking at one of its fatter cows, the warcraft wiki, the traffic chart for content pages (after a brief post-release bounce) is not going in any direction they'd like:



Meanwhile, I'm reminded of the incredible morphing axed-staff number. The staff page on the wikia site has since been edited by Beesley to radically slash the listed faces, butchering the history of the "technical team" section and reducing its usefulness in verifying how many are left.

Are they fake experts about penises or experts about fake penises?
Whichever one of those is correct, what the hell does that refer to?
How do you get to be either? No, wait -- I don't want the answer to that one.
