For my sins, I have a Facebook account - I am a Supporter of Wikipedia Review, among other things - and very recently the website is quite keen that me and JF become chums. As ever, when someone other than immediate family or people I know in real life, I drop into their page and see what it is that we have in common. Zilch, it would appear, is the answer between me and Jimmy F.

So, how come he pops up just as often as my cousins pals? Perhaps my Facebook WR involvement, and the fact he has Wikipedia noted in his hobbies/interests, is sufficient for Facebook to suggest me upping my 30-40 friends listing (I am not interested in being "friends" with anyone outside of my family, my RL friends, and other website acquaintances of long standing).

Did you send an email to him once? I found that FB encouraged me to friend anyone I'd ever sent an email to. I think I managed to disuade it a bit and just friend a few of them. Someone I know managed to avoid FB doing that entirely.

It will also suggest you friend friends of friends. smile.gif

"Well, when you import your e-mail contacts and choose to skip over and not add certain people to your friends list, Facebook doesn't forget. Facebook also forms relationships based on other people's imported contact lists, meaning that even if you've never imported your own lists, Facebook sees your address in other people's contact lists and figures out relationships based on that."

I only have two Wikipedians as Facebook friends -- a barely-active admin from the southern hemisphere (I doubt anyone here would know his name) and a highly-active pornographer (I think everyone here knows his name).

No, I don't recall mailing him - or any other arb (in case they share...) from my named accounts. I have, like many here I suspect, emailed en-ArbCom from temporary google accounts, requesting a recipe for guacamole, but I shouldn't have thought that was it.

Many other people you've mailed have mailed him, like I said before.
