Obviously my cherished ideas about the basic principles of journalism are incorrect.

Not exactly sure what this guy is talking about. The IPs editing the page in question recently geolocate to England. Anyone know?

Don't know where that is — You mean the East Irish Isles?

Eh? This looks like a fairly clear case of crankery - as an admin you're probably used to people posting crowdsourced "news stories" (about Wikipedia trying to cover up various conspiracies, etc.) only after a lengthy edit war or two, but there's no rule in the real world that says a CT crank can't post such a story after a single poorly-constructed (and quickly reverted) edit, which is what appears to have happened here.

Still, he's probably right. In fact, I suspect both Uruguay and Madagascar were in on it too, though they probably only did it because they got drunk the night before and couldn't find their car-keys.

QUOTE
The big conspiracy theory that is missing from the Pan Am Flight 103 conspiracy theories page is the one that says “the US and Iran co-operated to bring down a US aircraft in revenge for the downing of IR-655 and ensure that HW Bush was shoed into the white House.

But if you attempt to change the Wikipedia to include the possibility of this it is swiftly reverted.

Now, by definition a conspiracy theory is wrong, and the wackier a conspiracy theory is the better, because a conspiracy theory is by definition not the truth.

But if there is such a conspiracy theory so wacky that somebody does not like it, and they continually revert it, then probably it is not a conspiracy theory at all, but somewhere near the TRUTH. I have now had 5 reversions of the Wikipedia. This cannot be a random or unconnected occurrence.
