Within the past few days the confirmed donations total for wikipedia went from $402,000 to $689,000. One contribution was by An anonymous friend on 2006-12-27 at 22:17:00 for the amount of $286,800.

Three or four times a month, one of our local news channels runs a story about some person who sent their life savings off to a post office box in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico or someplace like that, because some con-person spun them a line on the phone that they apparently never heard before. As a general rule, these people are happy to tell their stories for the benefit of others, but prefer not to publicize their names.
Fools and their money are so frequently parted that I don't see anything terribly newsworthy in knowing all of them by name.
