In just six years, Wikipedia has mushroomed into one of the Web's most astonishing successes, with 1.7 million articles in English alone. The downside is that the free encyclopedia has its share of errors and juvenile vandalism, and sometimes the writing is incomprehensibly arcane.

This article from the AP gives a good, but rather brief, summary of the biggest problems with WP. However, what I found most interesting was this quote from Jimbo:
QUOTE(Jimmy Wales @ wheneverthehell)

Plus, he says, an online identity — or none at all, since participants can opt to be tagged merely by their computers' numeric Internet addresses — frees contributors to leave their "real world" baggage behind and focus only on what matters: producing good content.

"I am unaware of any problems with the quality of discourse on the site," he says. "I don't know of any higher-quality discourse anywhere."

Oh really?? Just more proof, in my view, that the "God-King" has become completely divorced from reality, or he is simply lying his head off. This goes beyond mere "whistling through the graveyard".

The nascent Web encyclopedia Citizendium springs from Larry Sanger, a philosophy Ph.D. who counts himself as a co-founder of Wikipedia, the site he now hopes to usurp. The claim doesn't seem particularly controversial — Sanger has long been cited as a co-founder.

Wikipedia has had a tough run lately. The free online encyclopedia had to admit that an editor and contributor who went by the name of Essjay didn't have the doctoral degrees or tenured professorship he claimed.
