This is great! Jimbo Wales is pushing for all blogs to drop anonymous commentators, its a foreshadowing of what he is going to likely push on Wikipedia.

Holy shit! Just when you think the hypocrisy couldn't possibly get any more blatant, this comes out.

Setting standards for acceptable behaviour in a forum you control is conducive to free speech, not damaging to it...

So why doesn't Jimbo start with the forum he actually does control? But ooh, wait! He doesn't really control it! I guess that makes it okay for Wikipedia to stalk and harass 150,000 people with biographies whose anonymously-written existence they're given no say in whatsoever, then!

Unbelievable.

I think it is a very good thing™. Jimbo has met with considerable resistance and it is only going to get bigger as the people who don't mind sharing their identities and the other rejected experts leave to forums more conducive (hint: Citizendium) and leave Wikipedia to the crazies and POV warriors. I think either way its the right thing.

This deserves a thread out in General Discussion, I'd say. Except I've had a long day and I've got to get some sleep...

I mean, yeah, sure, more bloggers should identify themselves, but at least everything they post represents the thoughts of a single individual, and you know at least something about that individual, if only by reading the blog. Not normally the case on Wikipedia, is it? That's if you can even figure out who wrote what!

I think this may be the single most hypocritical thing I've ever seen in my whole life. wacko.gif

(Btw, try it with rounded parentheses, and the TM should be in caps. smile.gif )
